Noland Joiner
I’ve climbed a mountain, but I haven’t reached my peak
After 30 years of successfully navigating the climb to the C-level suite as a technology and operations executive, branching out as an entrepreneur, educator and non-profit board member; I’ve learned a few things about breaking through barriers, pushing past fears and overcoming self-limitations.
Last summer, in the midst of 50-mile trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, I began to question if I had the heart and strength to continue. My guide pulled me aside, looked into my eyes and said, “pole, pole” – a Swahili phrase that translates to slowly, slowly. “Stop looking ahead, stop looking behind,” he advised, “just put one foot in front of the other and you will make your way.” These two words became my mantra, powering my ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa and a pinnacle of achievement for me.
The concept of “pole, pole” – slowing down, focusing on the present, moving step by step toward higher ground – inspires my coaching philosophy. My role as your guide is to assist you in navigating obstacles on your path, inspire you to discover inner strength and support you in taking steps that move you forward toward achieving your goals.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to join you on your journey. Connect with me here.
